Jack Shadbolt was a Canadian painter and printmaker who developed an abstract vocabulary rooted in landscape observation and Pacific Northwest geography. Working from the 1940s onward, his paintings synthesized gestural abstraction with residual figuration, often incorporating bold linear marks and earthy chromatic ranges. Shadbolt's work bridged postwar modernism and regional specificity, engaging with both the formal strategies of abstract expressionism and a sustained attention to natural form. His prints and paintings were exhibited widely in Canada and internationally throughout his career.
