About
Why this artist matters now
Gerda Frömel was a Czechoslovak sculptor who spent formative years in Ireland, where she developed a practice encompassing carved stone, cast bronze, and commissioned stained glass. Her work appeared regularly in Dublin's major survey exhibitions, including the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and the Independent Artists Exhibition, and was shown at The Dawson Gallery. She received support from the Arts Council and commissions from institutional bodies including the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and the Waterford Glass Company, positioning her as a significant figure in mid-century Irish sculptural culture.
