About

Why this artist matters now

Frederick Christian Lewis was an English painter, etcher, and engraver working across aquatint, stipple, and landscape portraiture. Active in the late 18th and 19th centuries, he developed a practice that bridged fine art painting with reproductive printmaking techniques. His work demonstrates technical mastery across multiple print mediums and traditional portraiture. Lewis was the brother of Charles Lewis, himself an accomplished engraver.
