Clara E. Sipprell was an American photographer whose platinum and silver gelatin prints span nearly seven decades, from the early twentieth century through the 1970s. Her portraits and landscape studies are distinguished by precise tonal control and a modernist compositional clarity that evolved with the medium itself. Working across an extended career, Sipprell developed a practice marked by technical mastery and restraint, avoiding the pictorialist softness common to her early contemporaries in favor of sharp definition and subtle gradation.
