About

Why this artist matters now

Charles Traub practices color photography as ironic real-world witness, capturing everyday moments with a documentary sensibility inflected by formal wit. He was instrumental in establishing the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago in 1976 and founded the MFA program in Photography, Video, and Related Media at the School of Visual Arts in 1987, one of the first to systematically integrate digital photographic practice into professional training. His work and pedagogical influence have shaped how photography is taught and practiced in the digital era.
