About

Why this artist matters now

Allen Tucker was an American painter whose work bridged late nineteenth-century tonalism and early modernist abstraction. Active in New York from the 1890s onward, he developed a practice centered on landscape and still life executed in a restrained palette and loose, gestural brushwork that emphasized atmospheric effect over descriptive detail. Tucker's approach anticipated aspects of American modernism while remaining rooted in the study of light and form from nature.
