Pietro di Gottardo Gonzaga was an Italian Renaissance draughtsman and painter whose meticulous drawings in pen and ink established him as a master of anatomical precision and narrative composition. Active primarily in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, his work exemplified the Northern Italian tradition of detailed study from life, combining classical subject matter with the observational rigor emerging from humanist scholarship. His drawings served as both finished works and preparatory studies for larger commissions, documenting the transition from late Gothic to early Renaissance practice in the Veneto region.
