William Edward Kilburn was an English photographer specializing in portraiture of the British Royal family during the mid-nineteenth century. Working in the early decades of daguerreotype and calotype processes, he established himself as a court photographer of considerable technical skill and discretion. His work documents a crucial transitional period in the history of royal representation, capturing members of the monarchy with a directness suited to the emerging medium.
