Ellen Lanyon was an American painter and printmaker whose meticulously detailed works combined surrealist imagery with precisionist formal control. Based in Chicago, she worked across painting and printmaking, developing a distinctive visual language that merged dreamlike subject matter with technical mastery in both media. Her work has been acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, establishing her significance within mid-twentieth-century American art.
