Caroline Watson was an English printmaker specializing in stipple engraving, a labour-intensive technique using fine dots to build tone and volume. Active from the 1780s through the early 1800s, she produced reproductive prints after fashionable portrait paintings and Old Master works, establishing herself as one of the period's most accomplished engravers. Her technical refinement and the delicate tonal effects achieved through stipple method earned her significant commissions from London print publishers. Watson's career coincided with the rise of the professional female printmaker in Britain, though her own reputation was subsequently eclipsed by canonical art history.
