Sebastiano Ricci was an Italian Baroque painter whose frescoes and large-scale canvases embody the vigorous, luminous manner of late Venetian Baroque painting. A contemporary of Piazzetta and elder to Tiepolo, Ricci sustained the grand manner fresco tradition descended from Cortona, combining theatrical composition with radiant color and dynamic figuration. His work bridges the ebbing energy of High Baroque grandeur and the emerging sensibility of the eighteenth century.
