Juan Sordo Madaleno was a Mexican architect whose postwar practice synthesized modernist principles with vernacular Mexican spatial traditions. Operating primarily in Mexico City from the 1940s onward, he designed residential, institutional, and commercial buildings that balanced international modernism with regional material and cultural specificity. His work helped establish a distinctive Mexican modernist idiom distinct from North American or European models.
