Emil Mayer was an Austrian painter and printmaker active across the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a period of modernist ferment in Central Europe. Based in Vienna, he engaged with both painting and graphic media during an era when Austrian art was negotiating between Symbolism and early abstraction. His work as an educator shaped the intellectual landscape of Viennese art practice in the early 1900s.
