Elena Guro was a Russian painter, poet, and experimental artist who worked in the early twentieth century. Active in Saint Petersburg's avant-garde circles, she created paintings, drawings, and illustrated books that synthesized Symbolist aesthetics with emerging modernist formal strategies. Her work integrated text and image in ways that prefigured later developments in visual poetry and mixed-media practice. She died in 1913 at age thirty-six.
