Merry Alpern is an American photographer known for large-scale black-and-white images of urban interiors and architectural details. Working primarily with 35mm film and contact prints, she creates densely layered compositions that examine the material traces of everyday life in postwar American spaces. Her photographs shift between documentary observation and formal abstraction, rendering ordinary surfaces and domestic environments with an intense, almost archaeological attention to texture and decay.
