Mary Bauermeister was an American artist whose kinetic installations, paintings, and sculptures engaged with light, movement, and optical phenomena through mirrors, glass, and motorized elements. Working from the 1950s onward, she created immersive spatial experiences that prioritized sensory engagement over purely visual composition. Her practice emerged from postwar avant-garde circles and developed a distinctive approach to abstraction rooted in the materiality of reflection and motion.
