Gae Aulenti was an Italian architect and designer whose practice encompassed furniture, exhibition design, and interior architecture with equal rigor. Working across the postwar period, she developed a vocabulary of modular, rational forms that rejected ornament in favor of spatial intelligence and material clarity. Her approach to interior space, whether in domestic settings, museums, or public installations, prioritized the relationship between geometry, light, and human scale. She designed for Poltronova, Knoll, and other major manufacturers, and her exhibition designs shaped how museums presented art and objects to the public.
