Jon Schueler was an American abstract painter whose large-scale canvases emerged from close observation of landscape and weather phenomena, particularly in Scotland where he spent much of his later life. Working primarily in oil, he built gestural, atmospheric compositions that oscillate between representation and abstraction, capturing the movement of light and cloud across moorland and sea. His work belongs to the postwar American abstract tradition but remains grounded in empirical encounter with natural forces rather than pure non-objectivity.
