John Waters makes photographic montages and oversized sculptures that channel the provocative humor of his filmmaking into gallery-scale work, mining 1950s pop imagery, Catholicism, and consumer obsession with visual puns and deadpan absurdity. His sculptural objects, such as giant cosmetic jars and drug paraphernalia, treat kitsch and transgression as inseparable American impulses. He is based in Baltimore.
