Hunter Reynolds made installation and performance work grounded in AIDS activism, operating from within the epidemic rather than at a critical distance. A founding member of ACT UP and co-founder of ART+Positive in 1989, his practice collapsed the line between political protest and visual art with what one writer described as ferocious honesty. His work addressed mortality, queer identity, and collective grief through embodied, often confrontational forms. Reynolds died in 2024.
