Why this artist matters now

Kelley Walker produces screen-printed and digitally printed works that appropriate and alter iconic advertising and cultural imagery to expose underlying structures of American politics and consumer culture. Working primarily in mixed media, he treats the photographic and commercial image as a malleable surface for intervention rather than a fixed object. Walker has collaborated extensively with artist Wade Guyton under the collaborative name Guyton\Walker, developing a practice that sits between conceptual investigation and material experimentation.
