Yoshida Chizuko originally trained as an abstract painter, but after her marriage in 1953 she focused almost exclusively on making prints. She cofounded the first group of female printmakers, the Joryū Hanga Kyōkai, in 1956. Chizuko always had a passion for music that is reflected in the titles of many of her prints, including this one.
